National Integration Movement (NIM) is an organization for all Indonesian from different kind of backgrounds, religions, tribes, ethnic groups, genders and education that care about the unity and integrity of the nation.
This organization was established on April 11, 2005, sixty years after the independence of Indonesia, in Independent Monument (Tugu Proklamasi), Jakarta. The founding of the organization was inspired by Anand Krishna an inter religion figure.
The Background of how NIM can exist.
NIM was established as a respond to the threat to our national integration, especially that was caused by the conflicts in the name of religions and ethnic groups in several regions in Indonesia.
Based on our inner voice and common sense, NIM intends to criticize and give thought and energy contribution to several problems that appear in the society in every aspect of life that will endanger the unity and integrity of our nation – and then to speak about it simply, clearly and openly.
Some issues that are potential to raise, for example: threat to the wholeness of Republic Indonesia region, the regulations and laws that discriminate certain religion; policies that will harm some ethnic groups or certain religions; threat or terror from a certain group of people towards other group and other problems.
The Foundation for NIM’s Struggle
The main foundation of NIM’s struggle are Pancasila and UUD’45 also the Rise of Indonesia Charter 2005 that the text is written down :
“ That the physical independent proclamation done by the founding father in 1945 is continued through development in every aspect of life, not just a finishing process, more basic than that, is the liberation of every children of nation soul. It should be realized and renewed, as the main foundation in the raising of Indonesia, which will make Indonesia to play an active role in the world society, that doesn’t know discrimination in any from. One earth, one sky and one humankind.
For the sake of the new society that we dream of , we need to confirm our commitment to guard and maintain the unity of our nation from the disintegration threats that come from inside and outside our nation. Armed with Pancasila, which is a genius noble values formula from its culture that spread all over the country, all of us, son and daughter of the motherland, must unite to arouse this nation and weed every span of our motherland from the low awareness bushes that couldn’t see the unity behind the diversity in our Archipelago culture.”
