NIM JOGLOSEMAR EARTH DAY DISCUSSION IN RAMA-SHITA HALL IN PRAMBANAN TEMPLE COMPLEX , SUNDAY APRIL 22,2007 AT 12.00 –14.00 O’CLOCK WEST INDONESIAN TIME.

Before the discussion The Torchbearers sang songs : “ Let Make a Better World”, “ I Greet You in Peace” and “ Damai Indonesia” because there was a honorary guest , a tourist from other country, who was present and listened to the discussion. Mr. Triwidodo opened the discussion with his explanation how important to live in a balance environment.
We lived because the Earth took care of us. Whatever we ate; rice, bread, vegetables, and even meat that came from animals that ate also plants that grew on earth. Furthermore fish and scrimp were also ate plants or planktons that were produced by the earth.
Even the spices that made the food delicious weren’t from outer space.
Whatever we drank, the water was taken from the earth or the water that fell and caught on earth. Even sleeping, we didn’t sleep on the space but in a house on earth.
The house that we lived in, the material and furniture were from the earth. The vehicle that rode, the material, glass, cloth, paint were from the earth. Oxygen that we inhaled was also produced by the plants that grew on earth. We were entertained, taken care of by earth but we didn’t realize it, we forgot.
All creatures had life and so had Earth. The water content in human body was 70% and the function was to maintain the body temperature to be around 37 degree Celsius. When it was too hot, the body would sweat so the body temperature would go down. And when we felt cold, our skin would wrinkle and came the heat from it and the temperature would increase again to 130 degree Celsius. If the temperature was too hot, the pole would melt to make the temperature went down. And if the temperature were too cold the water would froze and would produce heat.
It was predicted that around the world was 40.000 km. It was counted as wavelength, and the light speed was 300.000 km per second, so the formula for electro magnetic wave spreading was, frequency F = 300,000/ 40.000 = 7,5 Hz. It was predicted that the earth vibrated with the frequency between 7-8 Hz, and some experts said that it was the heart beat of the earth. Between Alpha (14-7Hz) and theta (7-3,5 Hz).
More than 60 trillions body cells lived inside our body. They died and regenerated to be borne and lived inside our body until we got old and easy to be sick and died and so would they.
More than 5 millions humans, millions of animals, trillions of plants, germs, and bacteria lived on earth. They died and changed by the next generation which borne and lived on earth. Until one day the earth became old, sick and died.
All cells inside our body took care of us so we could live; only cancer cells were against us. We should have taken care of the earth so it would always stay healthy. But we had become the cancer for the earth, so the earth felt sick. We didn’t realize that when earth life ended, the creatures’ life on earth would also ended.
The balance between the natures made the life could be taken care of. It could be said that the balance of the nature would take care of us.
The gravitation on Earth :
- If it was stronger : atmosphere hold too many ammonia and methane
- If it was weaker : the planet atmosphere would loose too many water.
Distance with the main Star (Sun):
- If it was farther : the planet would be too cold for the water cycle.
- If it was closer : the planet would be too hot fro the water cycle.
The thickness of earth’s crust :
- If it was thicker : too many oxygen that moved from atmosphere to earth’s crust.
- If it was thinner : the tectonic and volcanic activities were to big
Rotation period :
- If it was too long : the temperature differences between morning and night were too big
- If it was too fast : the wind speed at the atmosphere was too high.
Gravitation interaction with the moon :
- If it was bigger: the effect of low and high tide of the sea, atmosphere and rotation period that ruined.
- If it was smaller : the indirect changing at the orbit cause the instability for the weather.
Magnetic field :
- If it was stronger : the magnetic storm was too destroyable
- If it was weaker : there was no protection from the star radiation that was dangerous.
Albendo ( Comparison between the light that was reflected with what was received in the surface)
- If it was bigger : the ice age couldn’t be controlled
- If it was smaller : the effect of green house couldn’t be handled.
Carbon dioxide and water steam in the atmosphere :
- If it was too big : the green house effect were uncontrollable.
- If it was to small: the green house effect was not enough.
The Ozone in the Atmosphere :
- If it was bigger : the earth surface temperature was too low.
- If it was smaller : the earth surface was too high : too may ultraviolet radiation.
Earthquake activities :
- If it was bigger : too many living creatures were died
- If it was mall : the food under the sea ( the ones that washed away by the river current) would not be recycled back to the earth through tectonic lift.
When we played kites, and the kites were balance by the wind, it would go up but if it was not balance, too heavy on one side, it would just circulate and couldn’t go up. Balance between the office and family, between work and rest, between parents and in laws, between brother / sister and in laws, between body and soul. When one day we were synchronized with the nature and didn’t have to think about balance anymore because we were in balance.
In his closing, Mr. Tri Widodo read the holy massage that he downloaded from the Internet.
“Small hand and big universe”
This world was like a dust in the greatness of the universe. This body was one among 5 billions human being. Small period on earth. Your hands were too small to reach the universe, your eyes were to small to look at the universe, Your ears were too small but you tried to listen to my words.
With the small legs you tried to be near Me. Just to serve with the small hands and ears, which were not useful for you. There was one thing that you could do and would make good influence and give a meaning.
The way was putting Me in your heart forever. If you put Me in your heart, all other activities would not mean anymore.
What kind of worship would you do using eyes, ears and legs, all that would help you to take control of your mind? But if you asked God to be in your heart, controlling your mind and senses it would be very easy. Your mind and senses would be calm by itself.
It wasn’t needed special effort to sacrifice your work. Krishna said, ”If you started to think and meditated Me only, all thing would be controlled by me.” To reach this stages you must develop strong and unshakable faith that God is inside your heart.’
“ There was no coincident, when it came to touch inner self. God would touch it. If there were words that hurt your heart, we asked for forgiveness for our mistake. ”Mr. Trie said modestly.
Further more there was explanation from the younger generation, who was Ms. Wini Rizkining Ayu from Science faculty in UGM. She made Indonesia famous by being the Indonesian ambassador in 8th Hitachi Young Leader Initiative to talk about the strategy of preserving the nature in Hanoi-Vietnam some times ago.
“One of the greenhouse effect spread contagiously in Jaya Wijaya Papua,” said Ms. Wini
How could in the cool area live and reproduce the anopheles mosquitoes? Because the last two years there was global worming so the ice was melting. And the immunity of people in Papua was not as strong as people who live in low land. So there were many people died.
There was also a connection between our habits to ride motorcycle back and forth to Campus with that issue because the emission from our motorcycle would cause also global warming.
Even in Japan the Sakura season was also declined more than one month. It also happened in Vietnam, thousands of farmers and florists must bear the loss because they failed to harvest. In Indonesia, the fishermen who live on the beach started to loose their house because of severe abrasion.
It proved that the global warning was not just an issue but also a fact. Ironically we still feel indifference.
In Singapore, last week there was a new regulation “Bring your own bag” at shopping center on Orchid Road and surround it. The visitors must bring their own bag to decrease the use of plastic bags, which needed millions of year to be recycled naturally.
We could start to participate in reducing the global warming by using a simple way such as; if you rode motorcycle it would be better to ride along with someone or even “ Cenglu” (rode the motorcycle three people), if we drove car, we could ask others to join us so we could reduce the use of fuel and the emission of CO2. “ Who knows if we ride together with other sex, he/she could be our girlfriend/boyfriend”, she, who was born in 1986, said
In developed country like what we could see in Europe movie, the society there chose to use public transportation like Trams and Buses. If we went within distance we could walk.
For the last 14 years the global warming became worse because of modernization and industrialization. A lot of products were made by machines with fossil fuel power (such as coal, oil, etc).
Other simple solution was; if you wanted to buy birthday present, chose the simple package because it usually hand made But if it was sophisticated wrapped, it would be factory made.
Systematically we needed to socialize Kyoto Protocol. If you made a demonstration in the legislative assembly by yelling and riding motorcycle together that was just a lie. A lot of problems that emerged this time like draught, el Nino storm, flood, the raising of rice price were caused by ourselves.
Started now, if we bought motorcycle, chose the 4 tack. If we bought car, bought the one that environment friendly, such as the one that had a little lead / unleaded fuel.
If in the next 5 yeas the pollution still happened the glacier would melt. The islands in Indonesia could sink.
There was an interesting story; in Antarctica there was a flower field. Imagine in the middle of snow there were flowers, beautiful but it was because of the hole in the ozone above it.
African countries would be twice poorer because of draught and also there was famine. The diseases would spread easily because C02 was a good conductor for viruses.
We had to start from ourselves to overcome the global warming. She gave a simple example by changing the lamp, which had low emission. Lamp switch that was not used should be better removed
Mr. Didit as the moderator gave his comment,” Yes, we must start from ourselves.”
“A little sharing, I am from Semarang. In early 1980 I was asked by my father to go to Magelang. The weather there was cool at that time, but now it is very hot. In Semarang there is upper city and lower city, and in the upper city, according to my father, in 1860 when we talked there was vapor coming from our mouth because it was very cold. Now in the upper and lower city the temperature are the same, it is hot.” Except of that NIM coordinator from Semarang also looked at human attitudes that were not in harmony with the nature and it would destroy the nature.
There was good news from Surabaya that there was a program of planting a million trees in each district (kelurahan). In Jakarta I also read that there was also a new policy in the city arrangement that every house must have plants. In Hero Semarang, a supermarket, there was a special bag that environment friendly; even we had to buy it. The private sector must be asked to socialize and anticipate the Global warming.
Our ancestor had called the nature personification as Mother Nature, Ibu Pertiwi, the parental relationship that made us responsible, we would not exploited our own mother right?
In Bali there were still a lot of trees that were given offering, burnt incense, etc. that was not worshiping trees but a way to respect other life. Further more, when we were small we were told that there was “wewe gombel”/ghost so we didn’t destroy the trees. Now we must pack the local wisdom by using the modern language, which was funky, interesting and accepted by all people.
In accordance to Al Gore movies, The Inconvenient Truth that was mentioned by Ms. Wini, Mr Didit told the story behind the scene. Al Gore had personal experience, his child had an accident and it was caused by the Gobal Warming. He was shocked and he found reference about that one. He also did research and started to make a movie. The movie was awarded an Oscar.
At the question and answer session, Mr. Darmadi from Solo gave comment about the government ignorant attitude toward this ecological problem. He asked all participants who came that day to start to participate in overcoming the global warming from themselves.
As an additional information, according to the news on national magazine, cremation also caused an air pollution, especially when we used machine. When we used logs , it was save.
Ms Wini added that campaign around the grass root level was very important. This was difficult but it must be done, because they were ones who got the direct impact of the environment damage. The scholars must explain using their language about the impact of global warming to the life of grass root society.
“ Al Gore lost at the election day against Bush to be the American president, it showed the political direction of the super power country. Even Al Gore was criticized badly by saying that he was China henchman, and he made China developed,” said Mr. Tri.
The hot weather made human, especially the young one, became easier to be frustrated, angry, even did a sadistic action by firing gun like in Virginia.
“ We mustn’t desperate, we have to be sure to ourselves, starting from ourselves to be aware!” said Mr. Tri enthusiastically
A little comment from the moderator, Last Friday we said an affirmation of Universal love in Marina beach that was attended by the dean of public health faculty in UNDIP, Ms. Tinuk. She said that she had been in a stress because there she was invited to 3 meeting in a day, and she would almost forgot to come if nobody called her. But when she stood on the beach and looked at the twilight sky and sea and read the affirmation, she felt that she lost her stress and became one with the nature.
Mr. Eko Prastowo, as the director of Lestari, explained three important factors in our life. They were human, nature and action, the interaction between the human action and nature.
Bad interaction would cause destruction because it was exploitative. The root of it was greed and desire to exploit as much as he/she could for his/her own sake. Actually the world and the nature were able to fulfill the need of all human being but it wasn’t able to fulfill one-man greed.
All religion taught us to take care of the nature. World day was a form of concern and hope to create a better world.
The main problem on this world was the war against the natural resources control. Ironically this nation didn’t have to power to control its own land.
Mr. Eko’s interesting idea was to offer ecological education curriculum for the children as young as possible, so they would be closed and know the nature in the hope that when they were adult , they would did a responsible action, which would not destroy the nature.
If we had 30 member of NIM, and 1 family became pro to the nature, according to him it was an achievement that was very prideful.
Our ancestors had built Prambanan, they had a brilliant ability to recycle, reduce and repair. I was proud to be Indonesian as written on the street banner
As a closing, Mr. Sugiarto from Prambanan tourist park asked for forgiveness because Mr. Bambang couldn’t come.
He liked the salute and NIM’s Pesta Rakyat (people party) also a discussion like today. For the future, he hoped it would be continued and involved more society groups.
Even for using Rama-Sita Hall for discussion place, PT. Prambanan Temple Tourist Park would not charge one penny. NIM didn’t have money,” he joked. “ There was Jogya TV that covered the event, and it meant that indirectly Prambanan Temple would be promoted toward all Central – DIY viewers,” he said brightly.
Mr. Didit told us a story that he had read in newspaper that Candi Prambanan and Borobudur visitors increased this year and incidentally it was together with NIM’s Pesta Rakyat that was conducted in both place. His comment was followed by applause and laughter from the audiences.
NIM represented by Jogya coordinator, dr. Stephanus Hardiyanto, gave the souvenirs to the speakers.
Without realizing it, the day became evening, and the event was ended with Love toward the Universe Affirmation on the riverbank of Opak river. Shaded by the glory of Prambanan Tample and witnessed by a giant Hanuman Statue, the entire participant read the affirmation steadily. It was also livelier by the love songs and also national anthem: Indonesia Raya!
